Walk 1
From Truro / Boscawen Park
River walk:
Flat walk with short hill or steps at Sunny Corner and one short incline in village.
(2 miles (40mins – 1hour) / 1 ¼ miles (30 – 40mins))
You can either start this walk from town by parking in any of the city centre car parks or join the walk halfway and park up at Boscawen Park. From town you head to the Trafalgar roundabout on which sits the Shell garage and the police station. From here you take the exit towards Radio Cornwall which is sign posted to the Heron Inn. This road follows the river from town which gradually gets wider until it gets to Boscawen park. You then have a choice of whether to follow the pavement along the road or enter park and continue along the river path behind the park and Truro Cricket Club where there are benches along the way. Whichever way you choose the path will lead you to a cottage on the bend of what is called Sunny Corner, there are benches all along this straight for you to enjoy the beautiful view. You can then either follow the harbour path along past the wooden gazibo and up a couple of flights of fairly steep steps that lead on to a wooded river path along the top or follow the road up and round the corner. You can either follow the river path for about half a mile until you get to the end where there are some steps on the left that take you back to the road or simply follow the road all the way into the village and on until you see the Heron Inn on your left (you can’t miss it).
Walk 2
Heron Inn to St Clement Village round walk
Off road walk with choice of steep walk up over the fields (but definitely worth it for the view) then onto river walk through woods or just the river walk turning round when you reach St Clement
2 miles (1hour – 1 ½ hours)
From the Heron Inn you turn left and carry on through the village for about 500 yards until you get to a line in the road by a turning circle marked “Private Road”. Just by this line there is an entrance on the right which you go through and then immediately turn left following the public footpath through a kissing gate and into a wooded area. Cross the stream and then decide whether to go through the metal kissing gate or follow the path round. If you decide to follow the river path and not go over the fields you simply follow it all the way to St Clement and either turn round and come back when you reach St Clement or carry on and do the reverse of this walk. We however suggest that if you feel you are able to then you should go through the gate and walk up the steep path to the top of the field, go through the gate at the top and cross the field following the path keeping to the left. Then turn left into another field and then through the gate 20 yards on your right. The view from here is gorgeous and one of the most picturesque around. The Church of St Clement lies before you with the Tresillian river winding up to the right. Follow the track down past the farm then turn right heading down the road. Half way down on the right you will see the graveyard which is now a nature sanctuary which you are more than welcome to visit but please be respectful of the surroundings. Back on the road you carry on until you get to a small car park, turn right and follow the path along the river back to Malpas Village (the main path follows the river for about a mile or so to the village of Tresillian). This is the same path that you could have chosen to follow instead of going over the fields. There is a bench at either end of the river walk, the one at the Malpas end giving a peaceful view of the village, we warn that you may not want to get up!
